Hours of operation 

Hill Street Early Childhood Centre operates Monday to Friday, opening at 8:00am and closing at 5:15pm. We encourage families who have a child under the age of two to pick them up before 5:00pm.

We operate throughout the year; closing for public holidays, two teacher-only days, and a two-week break at Christmas. Fees are still paid during these holidays.

Daily routine

Generally the routine of the day is as follows:

8:00am	Children start to arrive, and are welcomed and settled into the centre
Morning	Supervised play-based inquiry programme, with ākonga-led (student-led) exploration
9.30 AM	Rolling morning tea
11:15 AM	Whakapai and then a hui time – tidying the space then having a shared group time with peers
11:30 AM	First lunch served – younger Kea group
Noon	Second lunch served – older Tūī group
12:15 PM	Rest and sleep time for older children begins Infants will sleep throughout the day depending on sleep patterns and needs. Our older Tūī group have a quiet time in afternoon with focused activities suited to their ability-level. Regular excursions into the community are undertaken during this time
3 PM	Rolling afternoon tea
Afternoon	Supervised play-based inquiry programme, with ākonga-led exploration
5:00, 5:15 PM	Centre closes for the day, for Under 2s and Over 2s
